Error Scans For Your Computer
Sunday, November 15th, 2009There is nothing worse than having your computer crash while you’re right in the middle of an important document, or worse, about to crack the high score on Tetris. There are plenty of reasons for your computer to shut down unexpectedly or sto doing what you want it to do. Here are some of the things you can do to help the health of your computer so that you don’t need to error scan your pc.
Scan Your Hard Drive
In the ‘My Computer’ window right click on C drive. Select ‘Tools’ then ‘check for errors’. Most windows programs are equipped with this tool which can spot errors on your hard drive.
Defragment Your Computer
This is another windows function that you will find in the control panel. Simply double click on the ‘defragment’ option. While this doesn’t exclusively look for errors it will make your computer run faster. Defragmenting is a way of rearranging the files on your computer so that they take up less space and are easier to find for the computer.
Run a Registry Cleaner
Your computer is filled with files that you no longer use. They are simply sitting around, taking up space and making your system slow. Some of them could even be dangerous and contain viruses. Every time you uninstall of delete programs, files can break off or be left behind. A registry cleanup will help recognize these files and delete them from your system.
Invest in Anti Virus Software
If you don’t have anti virus software you need to get some right now. If you are using the internet, your computer is coming across viruses everyday. If you do not protect your system, you run the risk of having a slow system and even losing data.
Scan for Spyware Regularly
While anti virus software will look for spyware, you may find you get better results from a specialized spyware detector. There are some excellent free software packages available online if you are a home user. Spyware is responsible for many of the pop up ads you come across while you are online, they will also try and steal data from your computer in some instances.
Run an Error Scan on Your PC
While the windows error scan will pick up problems with your hard drive, you may wish to also get specialized error scanning software. If you are having a lot of problems with your computer shutting down or you are getting pop up messages saying there was an unexpected error, than these kind of scans should be able to point out the problem to you.
See A Professional
If all else fails, take your PC to an IT specialist. What may take you hours or days to do on your computer may take them just minutes. While it may cost a little more money, there are a lot less headaches when you pass the job over to the professionals.
