Were We Really Just Buying A Classic Mustang

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

I really haven’t so much gotten to speak on my blog nearly as often as I would’ve liked, because of all the time I’ve been running around town with my pops manage his incredibly wacky midlife crisis. Well, you might think it isn’t as far gone as it might be. Basically how he showed up was he dressed up like the Fonz or something, and drop by to my place and proclaim to me, in his hippest dialect: “Hop in, boy, we’re out vying for some classic Mustangs for sale. You got it, buddy, I’m finally going to get one of my own.”

So next we went out to a couple of those wild classic car sales lots that most people are pretty much sure are mob-run, and I am just awed this wild old guy cut a check on the spot, for an alarmingly shiny classic mustang. It really is one hell of a purchase. It had a great sound too.

There’s a reason why I wrote that in a past tense. It sounded great until it seized up completely. My Dad says that it’s a quick thing to fix and he just needs to find the right part. The problem is, it can’t possibly be as easy to pick up 1969 Mustang parts as it was over a thousand years ago, but my Dad insists that there is a really big aftermarket for them in spite of their age. the the easiest way to find parts for 1969 Mustangs is by way of online auctions, because you can get them rebuilt and sometimes better than new. They might not be a steal, however… Come on, man, we’re talking about 30-year-old classic car parts.

Not the worst midlife crisis ever, I guess. He could’ve decided to buy a toupee.
