Don’t Be Unprepared for Your Cruise Discount Voyage
Saturday, July 25th, 2009It’s almost time for your first big cruise vacation and you cannot wait. Here are a few ideas to help you maximize your upcoming trip. Bargain cruises should be safe, stress-free, and enjoyable, so let’s skip those common rookie errors.
Each port of call on your vacation offers unique activities, hidden gems, and risks. Learn about each port and select events and restaurants that show off the best that a place has to offer its visitors.
The cruise line coordinated activities are not the only way to enjoy a port. Veteran world travelers will tell you that the best way to experience a new place is by doing as the locals do. Why not skip the touristy planned activities and create your own impulsive adventure? Or go against the inexpensive vacation grain and catch a quiet spa day on the ship when massages, pedicures, and other indulgences are discounted.
Favorite shore excursions will book up quickly, so book online or right after you embark from port to schedule the best activities. Don’t try to do everything, rather choose just a couple of your favorite activities and allow for some rest. Many veteran cruise travelers find they can beat the excursion prices by finding activities on their own. Whatever your shore activities, dress for the event and keep to the schedule because the boat WILL leave port without you if you are late!
Don’t forget personal security and comfort when you go off the boat. Prevent against theft by bringing minimal cash, using a secure backpack or fanny pack, and leaving valuables in your cabin. Bring plenty of bottled water with you, and don’t forget medications that you can’t live without. And if you forget everything else, be sure to carry proper identification and schedule flexibly so you don’t get left behind when the ship leaves port. Bargain cruises can be a nightmare if you forget comfortable shoes for walking around. Next, pack specialty things for outdoor activities - headgear, suntan lotion, sunglasses, and a jacket for the season. Be sure to leave unnecessary valuables at home. And lastly, pack a water container to minimize beverage costs and keep hydrated.
