Of course before you try it yourself, you may want to learn a bit more about it, so let’s take a look at those the diet works for best, pros and cons, what you can eat, and how the medical community weighs in.

Overview of the Raw Foods Diet

Basically the raw foods diet is exactly what it sounds like. It is a diet that consists of mainly raw foods. It is based on uncooked and unprocessed plant foods, including seeds, beans, vegetables, fresh fruits, seaweed, nuts, sprouts, and dried fruit. The basic principle of the diet focuses on the idea that heating up food too much, above 116 F, actually gets rid of important enzymes in foods that help with the absorption and digestion of food. Also, cooking the food is thought to get rid of the nutritional value of the food as well. So, this diet usually consists of a minimum of 75% raw or living foods.

Who This Diet Works for Best

This is a diet that is definitely a great choice for those who already lean towards the vegetarian lifestyle. The raw foods diet is a diet that takes quite a bit of time as well to stay on this diet, so it’s not necessarily a great choice for those who have a busy life. People who have anemia or women who are pregnant should not go on this diet, and it’s not a great choice for children either.

- Con #1 - Some Ingredients are Difficult to Find - One of the cons of the raw foods diet is that some of the ingredients that are needed for the diet are quite hard to find. The diet calls for things like Celtic sea salt, Rejuvelac, date sugar, carob powder, sprouted flour, and even young coconut milk, and all of these ingredients are very difficult to find.

- Con #2 - Takes a Lot of Time and Commitment - This diet also takes a lot of time and commitment if you are truly going to follow it the right way. Not only will you spend time looking for the foods that you need, but many of the foods that have to be made take quite a bit of your time as well. It’s definitely not the best choice for people who have extremely busy lives.

- Con #3 - Certain Nutritional Deficiencies Can Occur - There are several nutritional deficiencies that can occur as well when you go on the raw foods diet. It is possible to become deficient in iron, calcium, protein, B12, and protein, to name a few.

Do’s and Don’ts of Food

When you are on Raw Foods, the eating plan is quite strict. You are only allowed to eat foods that are organic and unprocessed when you’re on this diet. Also, most of the food eaten should not be cooked. Some of the foods that are allowed include organic foods, dried fruits, beans, nuts, legumes, seaweed, young coconut milk, fresh veggies, fresh fruits, grains, juiced vegetables and fruits, and purified water. Some people do add some quality poultry and fish to their diet as well, and of course you are allowed to cook these meats.

The Medical Community Gives Their Opinion

While there are several benefits of the Raw Foods diet, some professionals in the medical community are still a bit skeptical of this diet. Some medical professionals argue that cooking certain foods actually helps to aid with the absorption of some important nutrients as well. Doctors also find themselves concerned about the deficiencies that can occur. Studies have even shown that this diet can make things worse for people who are already at risk for osteoporosis, since calcium deficiencies can occur, and they can end up with lower bone mass.

Hair Highlights Guide

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Hair highlights will positively influence the aspect of your hair especially if you want to keep its appearance more natural. The advantage that hair highlights offer is that they bring out the haircut and the style you have adopted. Instead of allowing yourself to appear as traditional and without much sophistication, adopting hair highlights will definitely improve your hair condition and will add more intensity and dimension to your hair.  The majority of those who don’t approve of unique hairstyles think of hair highlights as being one and the same thing with coloring their hair. Yet coloring one’s hair is actually differently perceived by those who work in the branch as coloring the entire hair while hair highlights refers only to color strands of hair. People usually prefer these highlights to be brighter rather than darker than their natural hair color so that they would be in the spot light. Hair highlights also add a bit of sophistication to their style without actually requiring significant time or effort in the morning in order to give it a shape.

There are multiple ways to create and enjoy hair highlights. Four are mostly used and these are foil highlighting, painting, low-lighting and chinking. The first procedure involves using foil as the name suggests. It is meant to separate the strands that are to turn lighter in shade from the others that will persist natural in color. The hair highlights are obtained by applying lightener onto the strand with a brush-like too and then wrapping the strand into the foil designed for it.

The second procedure of getting hair high lights relies on using a brush or a comb to add the color with a brush onto the strands of hair. This second process is widely used at home as it is more convenient and easier than the others. The third method, low lighting is very much like highlighting. The only difference is that the result consists in darker colors used on the hair. This is usually preferred by light-haired people and therefore would like to get rid of too much brightness. It is somehow the opposite of getting light hair highlights. And last but not least, we have chunking which implies that you color your hair in chunks of different sizes.  For pictures of hairstyles go to http://www.findhairstyles.com

Hair highlights are popular today following the example given by movie or music stars. Hair highlights can be done at home or in a salon by a hair stylist. The only difficulty today would be the lighteners that are used.  In the past people used mineral substances and colors, today most extracts used in obtaining hair highlights are chemical based and therefore may do more harm than good to your hair. Choices should be made after learning details on the hair highlights peculiarities.

Your Children Are Easy Targets for Identity Theft

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Teen and child identity theft is more routine than you . Tami Nealy, of the identity theft protection company Lifelock, says kids and teens make attractive targets to thieves. Id thieves are generally smart and they know that the odds are in their favor that they won’t be discovered for a long, long time.

What can an id thief do with your child’s identity? After all, who’s going to give credit to a person under 18?

Identity thieves are in the business of getting credit and they are much better at it than the average person. They know all the little tricks to applying but mostly they know that credit bureaus are somewhat notorious for being a bit loose in the way they match names with credit histories. We’re an impatient society today and want prompt credit. To accomodate us, credit bureaus and credit card companies work on the premise that ‘close’ is good enough.

So at the age of 8, your child could have a mortgage, a car loan, several electricity accounts, numerous cell phones and owe plenty of taxes on unreported income to the IRS! Wow, talk about being precocious. Now you and I know that your child isn’t really the one who is responsible for all this buying and spending. And the average person you talk to about it will also be outraged. But the burden of proof is squarely on you to undo the mess. It can take years and possibly an attorney to unravel all the deceit and clear your child’s name and credit history.

The number of places that keep record of your child’s social security number and DOB would just astound you. Doctor’s offices routinely ask for the SSN. Now why in the world do they need that? They’re not hiring your child for a job? Just leave that blank and if they press you for it, ask them why they need it. You don’t have to give it to them.

Not every identity theft protection company has a plan especially for children but some do. Compare LifeLock vs TrustedID to see how they stack up against each other. Both of these companies have reduced rates for either child or family protection.
