Physician Job Search FAQ

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Q: Should I hire a lawyer to review my physician employment contract?

A: In general, yes. We are not lawyers and do not give legal advice. We have reviewed many contracts and can provide you with feedback as to what we have seen as standard. The choice of a lawyer is critical. Find someone well versed in medical contract law, as well as the state’s laws in which you will practice. Try to find an attorney recommended by someone else. Also, make sure the attorney has enough time to review the contract in a timely manner. Negotiations could be hampered by a slowed response time.

Q: If I am a resident, when should I decide upon accepting a position?

A: As a general rule, the earlier the better. The more time you have to work on license applications, hospital privileges, finding a new home and moving arrangements, the less stress you’ll encounter. Many hospitals recruit for summer positions in the fall and early winter. Don’t think all of the “good” physician jobs are taken by the end of winter. We assist physicians throughout the year because contract expirations occur throughout the year. Don’t worry. Have confidence that the right position will be available. Call us, we are here to help!

Q: Who handles negotiations, me or my recruiter?

A: Whenever possible, your recruiter should handle negotiations for physician practice opportunities. Having a liaison reduces the potential for heated arguments between two parties. Keep in mind, professional recruiters regularly perform this task.

Relocate Locally With A Plan

Monday, September 1st, 2008

While local moves are not near as stressful as moves that require you to cross state lines, there is still a lot of things to think about and a lot that could go wrong. Thankfully, there are local moving companies there who can help you make it through in one piece!

It’s not how far or near the place. You will still make the necessary arrangements and preparations. The only difference is the distance.Make sure that you get used to the fact that you are moving in only a few days.

When you’re moving locally it’s quite tempting to consider doing the move yourself. There may be any number of reasons why you think moving yourself would be better than hiring professional movers…

You might think that it is easy to obtain a rental truck and move everything on your own; perhaps you believe you would save money; perhaps you think your friends and family can help you: perhaps you think you can save money moving yourself. You have to consider moving everything right down to the barstools.

Moving yourself may sound like a huge money saver, but the stress that you bring upon your family really is not very fun. It takes so much of your time just in planning, what more for the moving day itself?

Even if you choose not to use a local moving company, you should always take the chance to educate yourself about local and long distance moving. A wonderful place to start would be our moving guide, as it is full of helpful tips.

Here are just a few reasons why we recommend you use a professional moving company:

1.Professional moving companies are just that - Professional! They move people like you every day and they know exactly what they’re doing. They know what and what not to do. They are trained and skilled to do the moving for you. They also have enthusiasm and discipline.

2.Professional moving companies can pack your belongings for you so your things will be packed the right way - or you can choose to pack them yourself but use their packing materials Which would include shredded paper. You can make your own and help the environment with a paper shredder.

3.Professional moving companies are insured - this means that all your worldly goods will be protected should something go wrong. You do not need to be concerned about how your belongings will get to their destination. You must also pay attention to your finances as they will need a credit card number before the move begins.
